Sepulcher of Shadows: A Short Story following The Madness of Light
It has been a long, long while since I’ve done a short story. It feels good! This one is called the ‘Sepulcher of Shadows’. You can read it here on the Spine of the Empire. It is related to the events of The Madness of Light, so heavy spoilers abound. It is specifically related to Lana Zfhi’s claim that even if they tried to create another Zfhi Avatar from the genetic material of the dead, they would fail. So, in this story, a Zfnoctewoohi and a Sacon venture into the mausoleum that holds the Zfhi dead (including Kharenela’s body), to see if that is true or not. They also discuss the end of an era and whether the Staves have any use.
It’s definitely less character driven than ‘Going’ and ‘Confessions of a Shapeshifter’. It’s more…visual and event based. Sort of icy and fuzzy.

Book Art: TMOL/TCOD as Spiders
Finally got around to making paper mache book art copies of The Madness of Light and The Corruption of Dark. It should be no surprise that they were both made into the form of a spider. Spiders are more complicated than a Clam or a Scorpion, so a wire ‘skeleton’ was used to create their structure before applying paper mache layers around it.
